Description
_PURPOSE_
Implements and directs all location safety programs including safety training, employee relations/safety plans, activities of the safety committee and ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory guidelines, recordkeeping and report filing; provides product quality oversight and analysis.
_ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES_
1. In conjunction with management, identifies potential safety hazards associated with company operations and activities and oversees remedial action to reduce such hazards.
2. Conducts applicable safety training and creates and maintains logs and records of such training; ensures that required periodic training is scheduled, employees attend, and that the knowledge taught is evaluated on a regular basis.
3. Oversees the implementation of employee relations/safety programs aimed at increasing awareness of safety issues and recommended safety practice improvements; oversees the activities of the site safety committee and brings forward recommendations for safety improvements.
4. Provides product quality oversight and analysis using knowledge of company standards and requirements, lumber grading rules, TPI requirements and how the product is used by the customer; records and identifies product by origin and date and data to identify progress of quality, either positive or negative.
5. Position requires certification under the WTCA SCORE programs and implements the SCORE program; reports regularly on location safety performance and shares information and recommendations with other safety personnel across the company.
6. On occasion, may perform similar work as a Safety Specialist.
7. Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
8. Leads and directs employees including assigning, monitoring and reviewing work progress and accuracy, providing guidance, addressing escalated issues and training less experienced team members. May provide input on the performance of assigned employees to management.
9. Other duties may be assigned.
_COMPETENCIES_
Knowledge of safety regulations and standards as they apply to relevant industry activities
Knowledge of company product quality standards and methods to evaluate product quality
Ability to read and write technical/business reports related to industry operations
Ability to conduct safety training curriculum at the appropriate complexity and comprehension level
Ability to plan, implement and manage projects in own area of specialty
Communications skills sufficient to present information to large groups and speak persuasively with all levels of employees at the location
Maintain up to date knowledge, regulatory changes, best practices in own area of expertise
_MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS_
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and five (5) years experience in a manufacturing, safety and/or quality role; or equivalent education and experience.

Combination of indoor and outdoor environments and physical activity requirements.
Work in an office setting is generally sedentary, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
May be required to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 25 pounds.
Safety oversight activities may take place out of doors, subject to temperature and weather variations, where walking may be on uneven ground.
May require climbing, bending, stooping or crawling to investigate actual or potential safety hazards.
