Job Summary Through memorable and dynamic experiences tailored for diverse and wide-ranging audiences and stakeholders, the NASCAR Hall of Fame serves as the recognized home for honoring NASCAR's legends, evolving history, celebrated heritage, and family-oriented traditions.
In support of this, the Curator serves as a critical part of a highly collaborative curatorial, collections, exhibits and education team The position is a key contributor within the department by working under the direction of the Manager, Curatorial Affairs to interpret, preserve, and accurately communicate to NHOF guests the ongoing history and heritage of NASCAR in support of the mission, vision, and business objectives of the NHOF.
The Curator will work under the direction of the Manager, Curatorial Affairs in the creation of exhibits, online/digital projects, publications etc.
In fulfillment of these goals the position will research artifact provenance and history, and copy edit, fact check and proofread all content produced by the department.
The Curator will assist in developing project themes and will draft copy for guest facing projects.
The Curator will interact regularly with the Curator of Collections in the documentation and interpretation of collections for both intellectual preservation and for public access.
Job Responsibilities Essential Job Duties Work with Manager, Curatorial Affairs to support the NHOF business objectives.
Commit to helping create the highest possible content quality for our guests.
Work in collaboration with the exhibits, collections, and education staff, as well as the communications and marketing teams to help bring projects from concept to completion, with a heavy emphasis on historic research, writing, copy editing, proofreading and fact checking all content, whether in print, online or on exhibit labels.
Work in partnership with other departments to advance new content streams such as publications and online media to meet NHOF business goals and objectives, research and write content in fulfillment of these initiatives.
Perform historical research on a timely basis as needed.
Fact check NASCAR-related information across all curatorial-related distribution channels for accuracy, tone, and style.
Maintain a working knowledge of current competition activities and technology in order to integrate related content into exhibits.
Develop relationships leading to both short-term artifact loans as well as permanent artifact donations.
Engage the public through media, face-to-face programs, and facilitate tours and other opportunities.
Assist the Manager, Curatorial Affairs, Curator of Collections, Exhibits Manager and Registrar as needed.
Represent the NASCAR Hall of Fame at various functions.
Interact with NASCAR participants, including active and retired individuals, to engage them in projects and programs.
Adhere to rigorous deadlines.
May perform other duties as required.
Fact check all information in exhibits and other forms of communication for accuracy, tone, and style.
This position requires work hours outside of normal business hours; must be able to work evenings weekends and holidays as necessary.

Scope of Responsibility This job does not have budgetary responsibilities.
This job will have periodic access to confidential data including company plans, designs, and programs.
Supervisory Responsibility This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience A bachelor's degree in communications, history, public history, museum studies or other degree which has a focus on research, writing and storytelling.
Experience may be substituted for education depending on the candidates' particular employment history.
A minimum of five years' experience in research, writing, copyediting and storytelling.
A deep understanding of the sport and existing relationships within the NASCAR industry is highly desirable.
Demonstrated ability to conduct original research using a variety of sources including primary documents, interviews, oral histories, and artifacts.
Demonstrative excellent writing skills for a public audience.
Must have fanatical attention to detail when working with exhibit scripts and other material produced in-house.
The ideal candidate has a demonstrated knowledge of museum curation policies and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to tell stories using words, images, and artifacts.
Must have outstanding organizational skills and work independently and collaboratively.
Must be able to work in an environment where needs change frequently.
Highly competent in Microsoft Office especially Word and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear.
The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.
Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Travel Required Travel may be required to preview collections and to meet with donors.
