The position is for a senior individual with experience on fuel operation, core design, fuel cycle economics, and fuel reliability issues.
The candidate will support, and lead projects designed to solve technical problems related to existing commercial light water reactor (LWR) fuel as well as advanced fuels for existing LWRs (Accident Tolerant Fuel/Higher Burnup/High Enrichment), with a focus on maintaining and improving knowledge, public and worker safety, regulatory certainty, and economic efficiency.
The candidate can expect the following specific tasks and roles:
Facilitating industry meetings, including large webcasts and in-person meetings, and presenting at utility and member meetings.
This requires strong presentation skills coupled with the ability to identify problems and develop solution strategies.
Understanding industry events and current challenges (e.
g.
, fuel cladding integrity during operation, AOOs, and design basis accidents) Working with utilities, industry groups (NEI, INPO) and government agencies (DOE, National Laboratories, regulators, and international research organizations) facilitating collaboration and understanding research needs Leadership in technical business development of problem-solving projects from proposal through execution and technology transfer The ideal candidate will have the following skills and knowledge:
Strong technical background, demonstrated with experience and activities, related to nuclear fuel management at a utility Understanding of current fuel reliability and operation technical issues, regulatory challenges, and public perception Familiarity with accident tolerant fuel concepts and technical issues related to high burnup Understanding the impact of fuel management on plant economics Active in technical industry groups, leader/participant in collaborative efforts with different organizations (owner's groups, EPRI, NEI, INPO) Additional Job Information:
Plans, designs, and controls the progress of complex project work within the technical department to meet member/client objectives; prepares and presents research reports.
Significant customer interface component with ability to lead research programs.
Manages medium level projects without direct people management responsibilities.
Provides high-level engineering efforts to support requirements in development and design and provides guidance to junior staff Influences project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work.
Coordinates and facilitates technical engineering related communications with the client Preparing proposals, technical publications/papers, and making presentations.
Acts as technical specialist for projects or project tasks.
Works independently on technical activities without direct supervision Education:
Advanced degree in science/engineering or equivalent experience at a utility requiredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
10-15 or more years of working experience at a utility in one or more roles such as engineering, licensing, operations or training.

This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's annual incentive program.
The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
