Summary The Paving Trainer/Technical Communicator is responsible for supporting sales, service, and parts departments with paving equipment technical issues, while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Essential Functions Develop relationships with our customers to earn their trust in you and in our organization Develop relationships within our organization to ensure cooperation and effective work to serve the customer Develop relationships with Caterpillar and other OEM representatives to ensure effective communication and work to resolve parts issues, product issues, and preparing parts stocking recommendations (this includes creatively procuring parts and equipment when items are not readily available through normal channels) Perform machine demonstrations for potential buyers and assist in selling or renting machines, including making recommendations to the customer on attachments to improve their productivity and process Provide advice and information to the customer to make an informed decision on purchases Assist in scheduling customer road calls and in-shop service with the closest shop location or earliest available technician Perform new and used machine start ups Perform operator maintenance and training (including for crews that are inexperienced with paving machines) Perform machine inspections and quote rebuild and repair estimates for customer machines and internal machines Provide technical support to technicians, sales, and parts personnel as needed with appropriate sense of urgency Collaborate with service personnel to enter DSN tickets and proactively monitor issues that require OEM response Perform failure analysis on failed parts/components Act as the lead contact with Caterpillar and other OEMs on assigned field follow machines and components Assist customers in person and over the phone with troubleshooting any issues that may arise (this includes off-hours availability to answer calls to keep customers up and running, and work in potentially hazardous conditions at night) Perform machine set up, operation, and troubleshooting of automatic grade and slope systems for pavers, milling machines, and other paving equipment (this requires familiarity with various types of paver screeds, ability to troubleshoot mat issues, make proper adjustments, and set up/adjust the screed to factory specs) Effectively support and communicate with parts and service department in prioritizing work orders Assist in selling service agreements, including TM&R agreements Work with parts department to rebuild stock levels based on information from the prior year inspections and customer input Maintain a positive attitude with customers and internal personnel in stressful scenarios Attend required trainings and self-study to stay current with industry products and competitive marketplace Overnight travel may be required Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience 5 years of experience in product support in the paving industry Comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar and other OEM paving products, application, operation and functions Use and application of OEM systems and diagnostic tools Excellent problem-solving techniques, communication skills, and negotiation skills to drive customer satisfaction Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously Computer Skills MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Certificates, Licenses, Registrations A valid driver's license Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
