Summary:
The Senior Designer role is an experienced individual contributor who can lead the user-centered planning and execution of features and corporate initiatives for our software serving design engineering and cost engineering teams. Comfortable with ambiguity, centering their work on customers, they engage stakeholders and actual users in researching and prototyping a range of design solutions with increasing degrees of fidelity as we progress towards greater confidence about the problem through user research. They will support our partners in engineering, QA, and other teams as they realize the design work. They will manage expectations appropriately with stakeholders and clients. Finally, they will also mentor less senior user experience team members, particularly in user-centered design capabilities. Here, we aspire to do the right thing and to do things right. A successful candidate for this role will lead from their strong experience working with B2B/SaaS users grounded in research-based personas, as well as stakeholders in defining workflows and improving and optimizing interactions, especially with presenting complex data in an actionable format. While thoughtful, they work with speed and efficiency and can manage time and complexity. They exhibit a bias towards action and know when and how to make tradeoffs among UX approaches. They can demonstrate traceability between user research and design execution and are able to defend design decisions based on user research findings.
Responsibilities:
o Works as the UX stakeholder in cross functional teams or Scrum teams o Comfortable with ownership of UX for application development or design iteration o Provides mentorship and training to new or junior UX staff o Champions the role of UX in our organization o Provides guidance on customer usability research and supports a structured and consistent approach to customer and user engagement for the full team. o No direct reports o Advocate for information architecture that supports our UI strategy and plans o Collaborate with product managers and development teams to design user experiences for our role-based Web applications and support product based agile scrum teams. o Develops, maintains, and shares user personas to help create a common understanding across the product development team of end users, the problems they face and how aPriori helps/provides value to them. o Define user experiences that address the needs of specific user personas and use cases. o Use storyboarding, user scenario development, high-level use case definition, user and task analysis to refine requirements, UX plans and UI designs. o Develop rapid prototypes for fast, iterative user interface improvement o Work directly with customers and our user council on usability research, user workflows and persona development to inform our designs, product roadmap and new features. Run Lean usability testing / validation. o Create visual designs and supporting graphical artifacts for the development team. o Work with marketing to define our branding and be a champion for brand and UX standards across all products. o Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills o Highly organized, persistent, flexible, and able to focus on long term goals o Excellent problem solving and multi-tasking skills o Success at mentoring and training others in UX processes and skills o Experience working in Agile Scrum teams and collaborating with stakeholders from product management, marketing, development, and cloud ops o Highly organized, persistent, flexible, and able to focus on long term goals Education and
Experience:
o A portfolio showing examples of design direction, process, research strategy, and other equivalent user experience accomplishments o Proficiency with modern design tools and establishing or maturing design language systems. We strive to be technology agnostic, but our current tools include Figma, Adobe XD, Zeplin, Balsamiq. and Mural o Knowledge and experience in usability research and design methods with a focus on human-computer interaction o Experience working directly with customers and end users of SaaS applications for usability and UX feedback o Experience with modern web application frameworks. Experience with React based applications is a plus. o At least 5-7 years as a user experience designer or other equivalent title. o BA, BS, MA, or MS in cognitive psychology, human factors, industrial design, or related field or equivalent experience. o Experience with CAD, CAM, CAE, AEC, PLM, ERP, or Supply Chain systems is a plus. Location:
Remote, with occasional trips to HQ in Concord, MA and possibly Belfast, Northern Ireland to work with team members directly. If you can work US Eastern Time hours that helps. Physical Requirements:
