Gerdau is currently seeking an Electric Furnace Helper for its Charlotte, NC facility.
No relocation provided.
Responsibilities:
Operate mobile equipment to retrieve supplies and assist in staging supplies and materials for furnace.
Use mobile equipment to clean slag door opening and assist with removing refractory material.
Add material (lime, carbon, and dolomite) through furnace slag door.
Maintain oxygen/carbon lances, and clean and maintain alloy chute.
Refuel and perform routine maintenance on mobile equipment.
Assist Utility Operator and Assistant Furnace Operator with the exchanging of electrodes.
Assist Utility Operator with filling alloy, refractory, and carbon hoppers at furnace.
Assist the Furnace Operator when tapping electric arc furnace.
Assist with cleaning and filling the tap hole after each heat.
Assist with the changing and repairing tap hole on a weekly basis or as required.
Assist in taking temperature readings of steel bath inside of furnace.
Assist in refractory patching of furnace.
Qualifications include:
High School Diploma or GED
Basic computer skills
Entry level - On the job training
Forklift and skid loader skills - Preferred
Overhead cranes skills - Preferred
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work in a self directed environment.
